Zelensky embarrassed, ministers quit over corruption scandal
As Russia escalates its offensive, Ukraine is staring at another major challenge. Senior members of the Ukrainian cabinet are facing a flurry of damaging corruption allegations. After President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a major reshuffle at all levels, there has been a string of resignations with senior officials resigning. The scandal surrounds the Ukrainian Defence Ministry with allegations of illicit payments to deputy ministers and over-inflated military contracts. Deputy Defence Minister Vyacheslav Shapovalov, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Kyrylo Tymoshenko and Deputy Prosecutor General Oleksiy Simonenko are among the officials who have quit.
A fresh row erupted between Iran and the Western parties to its 2015 nuclear deal over the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) report on Tehran’s sensitive Fordow uranium enrichment site. The global nuclear watchdog’s confidential report, leaked by Western media on Wednesday, claimed that Iran made “undeclared” changes to its Fordow nuclear site.
